Dating Game Artist Statement

This work is a part of my series Redeeming
Reality, several sets of paintings with figurative
and abstract elements expressing various types
of the female and male relationships; such as
ignorance, enmeshment, and differentiating.
The inspiration for these paintings is be rooted
in personal experience reflecting back on my
relationships; expressing their dynamics and
emotional states.
This first set of painting expresses the
relationship that is characteristic of the
evaluation phase of relationships. The mood is
based on a circus feel. The intent of the
interaction between the figures is to express
superficial, conflicting, lacking intimacy or
meaning connection. The colors are
intentionally bright and superficial if express
superficiality. The lack of depth to the surface
express this attributes as well.
Various perspectives were utilized to intense
the sense of movement and express the figure’s
internal state. The female foot projects out at

the viewer. The male recedes away the picture
plan. Paint is used to express more than just
the object, it is used to express movement and
heightened emotional states.
